The market capitalization (market cap) of eight of the top 10 most valuable companies of Sensex increased by Rs 1,47,935.19 crore last week. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and Reliance Industries were the biggest gainers. Last week, the 30-share BSE Sensex gained 1,341.47 points or 1.84 percent. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE held a special trading session in the equity and equity derivatives segment on May 18 to examine their preparedness to deal with major disruptions or failure at the primary site.
LIC and RIL Lead the Gainers: Notable Increases in Market Cap
In the week under review, the valuation of LIC increased by Rs 40,163.73 crore to Rs 6,16,212.90 crore. Reliance Industries added Rs 36,467.26 crore during the week and its market capitalization reached Rs 19,41,110.70 crore. Bharti Airtel’s market valuation increased by Rs 26,492.61 crore to Rs 7,64,917.29 crore and HDFC Bank’s valuation increased by Rs 21,136.71 crore to Rs 11,14,163.29 crore.
ICICI Bank and Infosys: Noteworthy Market Cap Increases
Market cap of these companies also increased The market capitalization of ICICI Bank increased by Rs 9,570.68 crore to reach Rs 7,94,404.51 crore. Infosys’ market valuation increased by Rs 7,815.51 crore to Rs 5,99,376.39 crore. ITC’s market cap increased by Rs 4,057.54 crore to Rs 5,44,895.67 crore. The valuation of State Bank of India (SBI) increased by Rs 2,231.15 crore to Rs 7,32,576.77 crore.
Decline in Market Cap: TCS and Hindustan Unilever Face Setback
Contrary to this trend, the market capitalization of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) declined by Rs 16,588.94 crore to Rs 13,92,963.69 crore. Hindustan Unilever’s valuation declined by Rs 6,978.29 crore to Rs 5,46,843.87 crore. Reliance Industries remained at first position in the list of top 10 companies. After this, TCS, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, LIC, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever and ITC were ranked respectively.
